British Wheel of Yoga Foundation Courses

Enhance your personal development, extend your practice and deepen your understanding of the philosophy of Yoga

Foundation Course Levels 1 & 2

Foundation Course Level 1

Commencing Jan - July 2009 plus Weekend RETREAT

The course will take place one Saturday a month over 6 months in a pretty Cotswold village on the edge of the Roman market town of Cirencester, Gloucestershire.  Easily accessible from M4, M5 & Oxford.   It will finish with a weekend summer RETREAT in the beautiful North Cotswolds countryside near Stow on the Wold & Chipping Norton.

The course totalling a minimum of 60 hours tuition is suitable for anyone who wishes to develop their personal practice of yoga and widen their experience. It provides a comprehensive grounding in basic practical techniques taught in the context of the philosophy that underpins Yoga.  It is designed for anyone who has been practicing for a minimum of 2 years and would like to study yoga more deeply, either as preparation to train as a teacher or for their own personal development.   Jan works with small groups only so personal attention is guaranteed.   Membership of the British Wheel of Yoga is a pre-requisite.

The Foundation course is the standard entry requirement for application to the BWY teachers Diploma Course and for Foundation Level 2.   It is a great way to further your understanding of this wonderful subject whether you wish to go on to teach or not.

PLEASE NOTE The current 2008 course was full booked by last December so please apply early.  Interviews for 2009 will take place from September 2008 onwards.

Foundation Course Level 2

Commencing Jan – Aug 2009 plus Weekend RETREAT

Have you finished Level 1 and feel at a bit of a loss?

Do you miss being with a like-minded group?

Would you like to go on and study more Yoga?

Certification:   This is a nationally run British Wheel of Yoga Foundation Level 2 Course Award, totalling a minimum of 60 hours tuition over a period of 6 months

Who is the course for?  Applications are invited from students who have completed Level 1 or its equivalent, e.g. perhaps you started a teacher training and didn't finish it, or have trained to a similar level in another tradition and would like to enjoy further study with a group of like-minded yogis.   You will be required to join the British Wheel of Yoga.

Aim:  to widen practical experience and encourage continued personal development as taught in the context of the philosophy that underpins Yoga.    My FC2 course includes ongoing planning of personal vinyasa to meet individual needs, with an improved sense of concentration and inner stillness.   There is no formal written work, only personal study, book reviews, philosophical group discussions and regular practice.

What others have said about my Foundation Level 2 course :

"I feel privileged to have taken part in such a wonderful course"

"Thank you for everything I have learned during our sessions and the retreat - it's been an invaluable learning experience".

"I would thoroughly recommend this course to anyone considering taking part".

So come and join a group of like-minded yogis in continuing your personal development and deepening your study & practice of Yoga. This will be the fourth Level 2 course that I have run.  It is always an inspiring course and the small friendly group offers a supportive environment in which to share ideas and grow.

Jan works with small group’s only, so personal attention is guaranteed.

“I went to my first diploma introduction day yesterday . . . I am so pleased to have taken the foundation course first.  Apart from being a really interesting and enjoyable course, it has already proved invaluable for my diploma study - so I just wanted to say a big thank you for that!  . . .I think I have come a long way on my yoga journey from when I first sat with you for my foundation course interview - much of that is down to you and your teaching and I appreciate the chance you gave me to attend the course.”    Emma FC1 student 2006

'The Journey'

by Julie Armstrong (FC1 student)

She drifts,

feels shifts

both inside and outside

her.

She is there, and is not, gone inwards,

beyond thought

through skies of her

mind, to find,

the path, the way,

the ‘still point of the turning world,’

to balance, mind,

 body, spirit,

to be

a  pin prick,

burning

globe of

 hot gas,

gazing

forwards yet backwards

in time,

listening

 to earth pulse,

being

cocooned

into herself,

she journeys

to this place,

returns

anew.

July 2006 Le Cotil, Normandy

“The retreat was a wonderful immersion into all aspects of yoga and has had a profound effect on my understanding, integration of my learning and establishing my regular yoga practice in every way.  Without the retreat I don’t think I would have got nearly so much from the course!

“I have enjoyed the style in which Jan has taught the syllabus and her encouragement of our participation in every aspect of our learning process.”
